Number
I got one...well...actually, I got two. The first was for Bernie's dad, Bob, the second was for Bernie' drummer, not sure his name. In either case, Bernie has no direct line. Slightly awesome, slightly hilarious, slightly wondering why I gave him mine too, especially since he is 19. It was another BART adventure. I met him on the Pittsburgh/Bay Point line and he invited me to go to the Rockridge BART on Thursday to watch bike polo. I dragged my roomate to join. We watched the polo amidst other activities including knights in armor fighting with wooden swords and four square to the right. At the end of the night he invited me to watch his band play. I said I'd go and he wrote the address on a piece of paper. It was a house party. At the girl's house he came with. I met her briefly. My roommate informed me she was in high school. I then contemplated whether or not to go. I'm not really that much older, am I? No. Does it have potential to turn into a hilarious story? Yes. I went. I wasn't nearly as young as I imagined. They had facial hair. A few mustaches to note. I left after Bernie played. He said he'd call. I think it's clear he won't.

RIP(C)
Rest in peace computer. You've done me right, you've done me wrong, and now, you're gone. We spent 5 most excellent years together and it all went by too fast. You gave me the interweb, but took it away, then gave it back, then took it away and gave it back again. You provided me with warmth after long periods of use. And you froze in the summer when I was hot. You've, helped, me, with, my, punctuation, by, underlining, everything, I, write, in, red, squiggles, and, now, I'm, lost. I will never forget the time when I tried for hours to get you to play Planet Penguin Racer but was unsuccessful because you couldn't understand screen resolution. I remember the time Ryan K-dawg sent me the first season of Pete and Pete but I could only listen to it because you weren't in to functioning video cards. Now all I hear is the sound of a few beeps telling me it's over as I try to turn you on but instead am only successful at turning you off. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Or rather, it was only meant to be until now. I'm not ready to replace you. I feel trapped like a prize in an arcade game impossible to escape this painful loss. Good bye.

D-MV/UI
Yes. Riding to the DMV in business casual clothing gets you a good amount of stares and smiles. I'm pretty sure they were thinking DUI when I brought my bike in and left with a California handbook on driving. Slightly hilarious. Slightly discouraging.
I made it all the way to work today, unlike yesterday where my lights failed...on Tunnel Rd...in the darkness. I had to turn around and go to the BART. Had that happened 35 minutes later I'm quite sure I would have been crying. No kidding. Or in the mouth of a mountain lion.
I'm going to try to get my bike together tomorrow night for some Humboldt country riding this weekend with Emma Worldpeace of Lost Coast Brewery cycling team. Word! She totally started it and I'm hella wicked impressed by that.
Bed!

D-Day V-Day
I was totes in Davis for the week. I went to the UC Davis Cycling Club meeting where Anthonie S of UMass presidented the heck out of their team.

I went to the Tour of California (TOC) on Saturday and half of Sunday. Well, as many ladies know, and some boyfriends, but probably no guys, that Saturday was indeed Valentines day. So while Lance was chosen for random drug testing (which the UC Davis team figured out - thanks guys!) we decided it would be a prime opportunity to get an autograph. I obviously opted for more. I opted for a valentine for the day. As Lance entered the trailer and the crowd went wild, one voice called out to him "Will you be my valentine?" "No....I already have one." Eff. Rejected on V-day. When he came back out for the autograph signings and he was right in front of me I continued "you can reconsider that valentines day offer", "I can't, I'll get in trouble", "I won't tell", [chuckle - LA], [no chuckle - CT].

What I did get was an alright picture of myself and Bjarne Riis (the 1996 Tour of France winner). As the crowd waited for Lance, no one noted the celeb behind us just kickin' around waiting for his team. I approached him and asked for a picture. He said sure. I said "let's do something funny, let's look angry." Noped again. He said in a stellar accent "no no no, just a naaahhhmal pictcha" and smiled.

PS. Pictures more often!! I'm getting Jamie VJ (he's got one of those dashed names that works out perfectly) to fix my internet issues.

The jar is ajar
So here I am in Davis, CA, home of the first bike lane and is also the bike capital of the US, but unfortunately, I'm stuck inside learning about how when a jar is ajar in a processing plant, someone is in trouble.
Well, the confernece (which started Tuesday) ends tomorrow. Tuesday I went to the UC Davis bike club meeting where Anthonie Santamaria countered my plan of embarassing him by embarassing me. But I never even had made it to my part of the plan of embarassing him. He announced to the crowd that we have a special guest, me obv., and noted some Caitlin trading card facts. I was totally unprepared! I acted....shy! Yikes! I sat quietly and embarassed and took the loser way out and the only revenge I could think of (about 1 day later) was to tell his girlfriend that he hits girls (specifially me in the head and gave me a headache! Yes, Anthonie Santamaria hits girls!)

Tonight I went to In and Out Burger and order a burger. Animal style. And a chocolate shake. It was good, but I'm done. It was the first burger I had in a long time. One I had last year made of lamb, the one before that was in PA on the drive back from Chicago in '05 and the time before that was maybe when I was 16. Those are the only ones I can think of. I'm not my classification, I swing both ways, but I think I'm sticking to the salad days for many reasons.
The plan from here on out is:
Friday - Finish the conference learninga bout metal and plastic food containers (take that Dr. Mercola!). Go for a solo ride around Davis and explorathon! Sleep over Anthonies and get a tour of Davis nightlife (which may or may not end at my bedtime of 9 pm)
Saturday - Ride my bottom to Sacramento and watch the prologue!! Hecka yeah! This will be followed by riding back to Davis then drive to Bizerkeley. Perhaps go to SF Bay and see Kelley or go to bed (at 9 pm).
Sunday - Go up with the VKs (or figure out a way to ride up) and watch the women's crit and the men arrive in Santa Rosa
Monday - NO WORK yesssss AND the TOC goes through SF so maybe I'll try to stay at Kelleys on Sunday night and watch in the AM as those legs ride by.
Well, I have to get sleeping for a short day ahead. Oh yeah! Jamie J-V might come over soon to look at my internet at the homestead and get it working!! I'll be so much better at updating this thing. I have so many stories to tell!

Aha!
So,I tested this blogspot link today annnnnnnnnnnd it's not blocked at work! Great news. Expect a FULL update soon of my crossssed country adventure soon.
Monday nights (and tonight) I will be working with Dave Verrechia (sp?) of Vanderkitten with inventory and sewing (I think). That's right, if you order some hot clothing I'll likely have had a hand in it/on it/hopefully not with it. Yuck!
Also, I have 0 internet at home and 0 TV = major productivity. I don't know how I did as much as I did before when I had those things. I'm always so busy!
Furthermore, Mt. Diablo road does not open until 8 am. BUST! That was a major suxxor.
xoxo
