Facegroup

In my noneffort to keep up with technology beyond fdsci, I will be disolving my facebook group I made so many years ago. For a personal record, I'll post the ad here:

Name:If this group reaches 2,000 people, then 2,000 people will be in this group

Category:Internet & Technology - Gaming

Description:This group is for real. If 2,000 people join, then 2,000 people will be in this group! None of that risky business associated with joining other number oriented groups such as 'if this group reaches 2,000 then my professor is going to treat me fairly and grade me based upon the success of my hard scholastic effort'. Chances are that ain't not gonna happen....so it will? Crap!

I don't think I'm as funny as previously believed.

Lights out.

My letter to Marwi...

Hi Marwi,
Hope all is well! I'm writing because I was on my way home from work (a whole 2 hour ride) and about 1 hour in I put my light on just to check it and nothing happened, so I fiddled and fiddled and cursed and fiddled. The sun was headed down so I headed back to go the faster way, which as it turns out, is a bike lane on a four lane highway (5 including the bike lane!). Although it was totally jam packed with cars and I was passing them while sitting up which is always totally awesome, I could only think of how crummy the rest of the year would be with no lights. I made it back with my secondary blinky light (which was on it's batteries last legs). I've fixed the latter problem. The former is the point of this email. Can I send this mother back? If not, do you recycle the parts in exchange for upgrades?
xoxo
Caitlin
Marwi Titan purchased 2006 (or 05) - I have 2 batteries and neither will turn the light on, possibly the bulb is out? Before if I twisted the connection of the battery to the light it would occasionally go out. Can't get either charged batteries to turn it on now . I ride a lot of night miles back to my home in Oakland (Yes, Oakland - so it also serves as a crime deterrent).

Super Wreck

I spoke with the credit card about it being stolen and all. Well, they said it's no biggie and they'll take care of any transactions that I didn't actually make. Also, to make me feel better, they told me I had an OUTSTANDING balance on my old credit card, which I assume is 0 dollars and they are totally impressed. Jealous?

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Because something hates me...

My credit card number number was stolen. $200 to JC Penny in Minnesota, 10 minutes after my Oakland bike shop charge. Luckily, MasterCard noticed something fishy.

Honey Stinger wouldn't accept my year end wrap up! WTF? Oh well. I still think they're the tops.

999109

That’s all of ‘em. My Bay Area Super Prestige race results. 9th, 9th, 9th, 10th, 9th. Consistency is the key to what most would consider a well fought season...or maybe it’s a sure sign of a performance plateau. Either way, I’ve made a commitment to next year’s season. I’m going to train. I’m going to train differently. I’m going to train better. I’m going to train so that after two months into racing I’m not completely burnt out. I’m going to not start training in January and stop in June. September racing just can’t hang with that type of plan. Well, anyway, I’m done for the year and pumped about it and heck, I’m new to the Bay area (originally from the Bay State) so I’m looking forward to gravel travel up “the 1” or over to Tahoe or down to Santa Cruz. Biking in NorCal is tough to beat and tough on the body. To replenish myself, I’m going to eat Honey Stinger. All the other energy packets are filth. Their smell is putrid and their taste nauseating. They are crawling with repulsive vermin.
Better luck next year,
Caitlin Trahan

Cow Palace

Who knew that beautiful weather could bolster such pristine cross conditions? Not I. Czech out the nasty mud brought to us by our Friday showers (in the background and fills the course).

This weeks Cross at Cow Palace had almost all of the key ingredients. Mud, mud and mud. Surprisingly, no barriers were present. Astonishingly, I didn't notice. Amazingly, I still finished well. Barriers usually bring me up a place or two followed by getting passed by a place or two on any uphill. This race was different, although I may never know how different equates as far as results go. I was listed as second in the printout and also today on the internet, but my credit was lost at the podium. Perhaps this was an esoteric second I'm never to understand. So I waited at the podium. I heard Women's B's. I didn't hear "Caitlin"; nor did I hear "socks", "Moonie", "OG VK", or any of the like. I heard three girls names and none of them mine. Bummer. I went back to the results and saw this obscure marking next to my name pointing me down below 2nd but not inserting my number anywhere. I know, normally I get ninth and that's what I'm comfortable with, but I'm pretty sure I was up there. Thanks to some pain killers from Machine gun and the Hells Angels (no kidding*) and probably a bunch of adrenaline, I couldn't feel my wounds from a few nights earlier. Well, we'll leave this result as a second as far as sponsors go, but to the locals who know I only maybe got second as a top twenty for sure (cuz ther B less than 20 Gs in da race).

* Yup, my Hells Angels coworker supplied me with some "prescription strength IB Profin" - sure to make your legs numb strength (800 mg). I took one early am Friday due to my crash late Thursday night and Friday night I was starting to hurt again so I started to eat some dinner and unraveled my paper towel (which was how it was delivered) and scarred the heck out of myself when I read the pill saying "BOO". F. No wonder I'm feeling great. I'm drugged out of my mind. Oh wait, it says "800". That was close.

Seirra Point

My Moonie race report draft:

I rode to the race with big sis and friends who clearly haven't comprehended the awesomeness of cyclocross and had promptly turned around after arriving at the race leaving me to the real cyclocross groupo, the Moonies. I took a couple mental laps during the "NO PRELAP - THERE WILL BE NO PRELAP" time and finally got a few real prelaps in to scout out where I predicted the dollar grab would be. Up the hill after the barriers? No, it will be right before the woopdewoop. Great. It's race time. Crush bitches, crush bitches, crush bitches. Try for the dollar grab. Totally miss and almost catch tape. Continually get sloppier with sloppiness working to my advantage. [No kidding on this one, the more tired I got, the faster I was over the barriers and up the runups, unfortunately also bruisier. At one point, headed up to the stairs, I unclipped rather late only for my bike to hit a rock sending it nicely onto my shoulder for a super fast runup.]* Anyway, finally, I catch Katherine and heck yeah! she pulls for me around the finish line! I finished 9th to maintain consistency (9th at McLaren and 9th at Coyote Point). Post race conversation with Kathryn reveals that pull was an attempted drop even though we weren't racing against each other - she's just crushing bitches as always.

*I'm science. Pure. I dont use english and nor punctuation spots good.

Point Reyes!

Sarah (in Raleigh) and I drove to Point Reyes to see the scenic vista! It was amazing! Last minute decision - let's make it by sunset - hope in the car - drive via GG Bridge - keep going along the famous 1 - make it there rushing to see it while there is still some light.

Yes! Ok, we've seen it. Let's now wait until they light it up (only a few times a year). "Are you here for the program?" ..."umm, we're here to see it light up" "well, there's room in the program if you want to join" "alright, we'll join the 'program'".

So we join the "program". Our tour guide brings us down to the lighthouse and we go inside for some historical background. She tells us about the lighthouse and some of the shipwrecks that have occurred.

Then we move up and look at the meat of the opperation, the fresnel lens. The lens concentrates the light into a beam. The rotation of these beams creates a blinking effect (even though the light is always on powered by 140 lbs of coal AN HOUR).

Each lighthouse has distictive pattern which depends on the number of fresnel lenses that surround the light widthwise. Point Reyes light house blinks once every 5 seconds. Another might be every 3 seconds and another would be every 15 seconds. Like clockwork.

There's light!

Photogenic

Not sure if this fits the definition but it's quite the impressive shot.

I have no shame.

See more pics from DFL. Mom, Dad, this is what I've been up to in California.

K9 FeLion

1. Walnut Creek has an impressive number of dogs, mostly which populate the green-way. The faster one bikes drives up cuteness viewing exponentially. Also, inevitably, leash danger tags along.

2. Cats. Thanks XCX

I look a lot faster having a friend who knows how to work a camera. Check out the pixels from the CCCX race in Salinas. Heck of sandy and heck of hot. I don't understand how those elephant seals do it!

PS-3rd place.

Mr. History

Remember that one? Anyway, I'm holding the trophy for the collegiate national championships (road). Quite the piece of history. This year, it's in the hands (or trunk) of Anthonie. Nice job men and women of UC Davis. You probably have the hottest legs.

Expiration

I went to go use some milk in my tea and I did my normal smell check. Yesterday, my milk was good. Today, my milk is bad. Surprisingly, the expiration date was 9.9.09. I couldn't believe they were exactly right. It must have happened when the clock struck 12. Ironically, I used my roommates milk instead, expiration date 8.28.09.

Hwheelz

Per young Williamz request.

These are my new wheels. Wheels, these are my friends. Nice to finally meat. I've left the BH. I want better things, some solidarity in performance. How can I be sure that the BH is good for me if I don't try other things, right? It was hard but I think it was the best for both of us. BH will get over it. Spinergys are hot and that's what I'm about right now, specifically a good ride and nothing else and the BH wasn't giving me that.

The break up went a little something like this...

Listen, BH. Last night was really great. You were incredibly romantic and heroic, no doubt about it. And that's great. But I've thought about it, and my thing is this. Spinergy wheels are really hot. And don't get me wrong, you're cute too, but Spinergys are like, cut. From marble. They're gorgeous. They're like this beautiful rim and this incredible spokes. And I like you more than I like Spinergys, BH, but I'm 16. And maybe it'll be a different story, like when I'm ready to get married, but right now, I am entirely about riding. I wanna take him and grab him and just ride his brains out, ya know? So that's where my priorities are right now. Riding. Specifically with Spinergys and not with you. But you're really nice, I mean everybody thinks so. And, I'm sorry if this isn't the direction you saw things going between us. I still totally wanna be friends. You better write me a letter, okay?

Bike spokes.....jokes

So, I was going to meet someone the other day and I thought, what better than to introduce myself to an almost complete stranger than to bring along some ice breaking jokes. Since we were going bowling I looked up bowling jokes. Terrible. Not one up my alley. So I decided that bike jokes would be a lot more fun. Turns out, there is only one good one.

Q: Why couldn't the bicycle stand up on its own?

A: It was two tired.

Genius.

I decided I would add to the list. Here it goes:

Q: What is a bicycles favorite band?

A: Twisted Shifter.

Q: What is a bicycles favorite style of music?

A: Metal. Obviously.

Q: Who is the former president of bicycles?

A: Helmet Kohl (you nerds!)

Q: What is a bicycles favorite newspaper?

A: The seat post (that's for you Robbie)

Q: How did the bicycle rid his lady passenger?

A: He derailed her.

Q: What is a bicycle's most trusted form of protection?

A: Rubbers.

Q: What did the bicycle say at church?

A: The father, son and the holy spoke.

That's enough spokes jokes for now.

Weekend wrap up

I went to the Oakland Athletics game (specifically baseball - perhaps Oakland's worst athletes).

I said good bye to My Owen.

I went to Angel Island (named rightly so).

And I finished it off with mowing the lawn. This 200 square foot area took me nearly 2 hours to mow and I didn't finish. I filled up my neighbor's compost after mine filled up. Here is a nice view of the walking path I started with. Pictures to come when yard is revamped.

My new theme song

Brand New Key

I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at daylight
It almost seems like you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you got something I need

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I ride my bike, I roller skate, don't drive no car
Don't go too fast, but I go pretty far
For somebody who don't drive
I been all around the world
Some people say, I done all right for a girl

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I asked your mother if you were at home
She said, yes .. but you weren't alone
Oh, sometimes I think that you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you've got something I need

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out to see
La la la la la la la la, la la la la la la
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

From McSweeney's

Lawyer Joke #7
Q: What do you call a room full of lawyers?
A: A group of highly educated legal professionals

Chicken Joke #5
Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: Because the chicken lacks any reasoning or decision-making capabilities, it seems unlikely that the chicken's action was spurred by any particular motivation.

Blonde Joke #16
Q: How do you brainwash a blonde?
A: A rigorous schedule of psychologically breaking down her confidence and resistance to outside suggestion.
