Empty shells

Here at the gun show, we are taking a day to bow our heads and remember one Maegan O. She was one of our favorite birds. Today she left us for a better place (Vermont) and we are all sad to see her go.

The hammer

I had my mock defense today in front of the hammer. It went alright. I'm afraid to tell anyone the defense date. If you see a big announcement on Monday, please join me on a victory ride. If you see nothing, send flowers to:

They'll know where to bring them. In the meanwhile, in honor of Dr. Todd R. Klaenhammer and his reputation we have decided to carve a pumpkin. Here is a shot of the design and the pumpkins from the local farmers market.

Crashionals!!!!!!

Yeah. Totally. I did a severe amount of eating dirt this weekend all in the hopes of making another appearance in the top 20. Unfort, it didn't work out. Usually my schedule goes as such:

Lap 1 - relax
Lap 2 - try hard but suck
Lap 3 - remember how to mountain bike, catch, and pass bitches girls (well, since most of them are my friends)

This weekend went like such:

Lap 1 - suck and give self challenge of entering the woods close to last
Lap 2 - crash while moving up places
Lap 3 - remember how to rule at mountain biking until chain breaks then scoooter you way until the finish

Not exactly how I had intended the weekend to go but it did make for a pretty epic race.

Now short track I like to do a sort of similar race plan:

Beginning - let the girls get ahead of me, again the challenge is more fun
Middle - end warm up, begin catch up
End - regret not warming up, finish strong

However, at nationals it went a little something like this

Beginning - Put new chain on in combination with old cassette and allow skipping and serious chain suck to occur, enter woods last
Middle - Remember how to mountain bike, pass girls, resume chain suck in the woods
End - Get pulled as you are moving up with a vengeance

Next time? I don't think so. Although the pHd isn't out of the question it's pretty unlikely.

Here are some pix from nationals and a few LOL cats below.

Brake Check 1, 2.

So I rolled out of my house this morning for a 5:30 am ride with Mr. Kick Ass . As I hopped on my bike and rolled down the drive way, I started to apply my braking system to slowly get onto Lakeside Drive. With ease they pulled back but I still went forward. I kept speeding up in fact. At this point, I realized "oh, my brakes aren't connected....crap". I continued across the street downhill into my neighbors yard almost surely I left a tire mark.

Things to remember
1) Connect brakes

2) Avoid eye contact with neighbors

3) Pick up Justin at 6:49!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS. I'm leaving for western NC tomorrow and won't be back until Sunday. I know I have 2 3 readers so read this in the meanwhile.

I'M GOING TO NATIONALS!!!!!!!11

After the registrar rejected me telling me I am considered a half time student I further looked into the laws of NCSU. Indeed I thought they were wrong but that seemed like such a simple question...they had to be right. Well anyway, after they had a conversation with my fist they reconsidered and now have approved my full time status.

I am ready for nationals.

For the officials and for the champion:

PS. the codes are actually for "bret"

Word, cross.

I recently upgraded to the cat 3. Booyakasha.

Shout out to the creepster saying "kitty kitty" every time I went over the barriers. Gross! Other than that my fans were flipping AWESOME!! Even the commentator noted my wide fan base at the race!! THANKS GUYS!!!! I really did appreciate it and any time someone cheers for me I dig a little bit deeper. Watch out New England CX. I'm coming back!!!!

Other items of interest:

- My mental game was AWESOME this weekend and I have Aaron to thank for that.

- I turned my FINAL thesis in to my committee.

- My fist had a conversation with the registrar this morning and I think they are now going to see my student status a little clearer.

- The Justin FB count down is at 2 days!!

What the crap?

I'm a "half-time" student...sounds a lot sexier than it is. I can't race collegiate nationals. I guess I'm staying in Bummerville, USA for a lot longer than expected.

Post writing edit: Just for your FYI information, I looked into this earlier in the year consulting the food science secretary (who is amazing at what she does and seems to know everything you need to do) as well as the registrar (who I explained my situation to and I don't recall them looking my name up) and BOTH confirmed I was a full time student. Soooo, I'm not a complete doof.

Bummerville, USA

That seems to be where I'm vacationing/located/suffering. My fork sizzled this morning and it wasn't good. By the time I got to Buck Jones and Jones Franks the fork was totally flat. I'm on a terrible streak right now. Sarah O'F told me bad things happen in 3s. I'm on 4 within 1 week.

CONFERENCE CHAMPS

For all those in the ECCC I'm talking about Easterns.

I totally OKed it this weekend up in Wilksboro, NC in Wilks county. I got about 4th in the XC, 4th in super D, 5th in downhill and 4th in STXC. My downhill blip in my love for 4th place is due to getting caught in the tape. I did manage to get a fall funny enough to be on Danny Tanner's Americas Funniest Home Videos or Uncle Joey Gladstone's Americas Funniest People while going from a brisk walk, to brisk run, to brisk flat on my face in Lowes Motor Speedway Grocery Store in Wilksboro. Ho Ly Crap. The story was later told to me as heard from a friend "Man, that girl just when down hard....wait, that's Caitlin CAITLIN CAITLIN are you ok?"

On another note, riding hurts right now and it's not the good hurt. I'm trying to try and it's working. But in the meanwhile, here is a picture of Nic looking fast.

Crack

A few very fine people/places/things are my personal crack.

1. Cross.
As I was riding my bike home the other day, I saw a small construction site. It first appeared to me as a cross course. I think I have a problem.

2. Freebies.
As I was riding my bike home the other night, I found a camera, in case, with some great pictures of a vacation with Grandma. Unfortunately the camera is toast, but the 2G memory fits my camera as does the camera case which I needed.

3. CANDY CORN.
Nuff said.

Southern comfort

On the way back from the race Saturday, we drove by a few interesting places I may or may not miss.

There is nothing like the south.

This Weakend

I'm at the weakend but headed towards the strong end. I did sub par in the collegiate events. I lost 2 mental games in a row. Checkmate from a pawn. But then, I turned it completely around and gave em' hell on Sunday. I got 4th overall beating several racers that are categories above me. I'm going to attempt to upgrade this week so I can race with the big girls soon all the time.

Per request of Mr. Kick Ass please note the following:

And because this game face is ill:

And because these shoes are kickin':

BAM

I got a 100% on my threshold yesterday. I think they aren't going to let me down there soon. Every time someone gets them all right they have to repeat the test. Bummer.

Tonight is frist f'n friday. I'm stoked. It's the best thing Raleigh has going. Possibly the only thing Raleigh really has going. But definitely the best.

Sentence. Yes.

100%

Thasssss right!! I got a 100% on the threshold test this am for the second time ever NTM another girl in the room didn't get ONE answer right. She was thoroughly impressed with my ability to smell what I thought was something similar to BO.

Annnnnnnd I just got a high five from Dr. Todd "the jesus" Klaenhammer for this A+ for effort and for actual work graph (that's for your mr. kick ass, my one blog reader).

sorry, figure removed because of confidentiality issues.
