Ride Share & Tell

I ventured off to Portland last weekend via UHaul and prior to going up I saw that a one-way ticket home costs about $250. So, I perused the Craigslist. I found a nice young man driving back to SF on Sunday, the day I was hoping for a ride.

At 10 am on Sunday I meet up with said driver and after giving him a quick license examination I hop in his rental car. We then pick up another girl and make our way to CA. Our first stop was in Eugene to pick up the fourth rider. He'll be here in "15" minutes 1 hour later of this supposedly 11 hour drive we get back on the road. Shortly after, I realize I'm the only norm in the group. Bohemian Rhapsody comes on. They're all singing and tapping my shoulder saying "I know you know the words Caitlin, come on!" ...and so it began.

Our next stop was in Medford, OR. The fourth rider needed to pick up some frozen fish from his uncles house off the highway. This has to be a covert operation because his boss who is picking him up on the other end is highly allergic to fish. So we stop and uncle's house and he gets out of the car. Now the driver who took the fourth rider to OR apparently had stopped here on the way up. He told us ladies that they are very cool, they will sell us pot cheap and let us use their restroom. I adventure on.

As I walk in I ask to use the restroom. Since the fourth rider is in the first bathroom and they "don't know what's going on in there" they offer to let me use the one in there bedroom, which does not have a door. They close the bedroom door and leave their dog with me. I'm using the bathroom, door-less, with a chihuahua jumping on me. After I leave the dog apparently has real eyes for me and doesn't want to let me go and also wants to hump me, a lot. I keep throwing this dog away and it keeps coming back for more. So I'm sitting with the family, watching the Fantastic 4, with the dog coming after me and the family (with young teens present) asks if I want to smoke with them. I politely decline as does the driver. The driver then lays down on the coffee table (?) and the family asks, "hey do you want a message".."sure! I'd love a message" so this family breaks out the full on message table in the kitchen and the father gives him a complete rub down. In the mean while this dog still won't get off. We then leave and as I'm getting in the car I note that I didn't see the fish go in the trunk (and we certainly don't want it up front) and we ask, wheres the fish? Oh, he decided not to take it. One hour after our initial stop, we're back on the road.

Then it's dinner time. The chick in the car originally from MN posts on FB "I'm in Weed, CA what should I eat?" So her FB high school friend posts back "I live in Weed, let's have dinner!" so of course, we all have dinner together. Now the HS girl tells us all about her baby's daddy, how she was a ponygirl in the Folsom street fair, etc. etc. lots of catching up. About 1 hour later we're back on the road.

There are a couple more extremely long bathroom stops (20 minutes +) and a comment made by the driver that "it looks like a nice place to grieve here". I take the last leg of the drive and there will be no more stops and we won't go less than 80. Thanks. I arrive home at 12:30. i should have been home at 9. It only cost $25 and I got a lot of story out of it...in the end I guess it was worth it.

Back to the hobbies

Now that I'm going to have a lot more free time on my hands, I'm going to fill it with some things I've been meaning to get to for a long time.

First up: terrarium.

Here is a little bit on Moss: In World War I, Sphagnum mosses were used as first-aid dressings on soldiers' wounds, as these mosses are highly absorbent and have mild antibacterial properties. Additionally, native Americans were one of the peoples to use Sphagnum for diapers and napkins, which is still done in Canada.

Next up: Wheel truing!

Pictures to follow upon completion. Going for a walk now to pick some plants.
